TROPICAL THORN FOREST
Thorn forest is a tropical vegetation formed with thorny shrubs and bushy trees,
perhaps with a few taller trees, set in a sparse ground flora in which grasses
are often lacking.
AREA
This
vegetation covers a large part of southwestern North America and southwestern
Africa and smaller areas in Africa, South America, and Australia.
In India, they are found in
north western parts, semi- arid areas of Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh
and Haryana.
CLIMATIC CONDITIONS
These
forests are found in dry subtropical and warm temperate areas with a seasonal rainfall averaging 250 to 500 mm.
VEGETATION
The
trees found here include Acacias, Palms Euphorbias and Cacti.
WILDLIFE
The wildlife here
includes rats, mice, rabbits, fox, wolf, tiger, camel.
FEATURES
In
a Tropical Thorn Forest trees are scattered and have long penetrating deep into
the soil and spreading in a radial pattern to find water.
Here
the stems are succulent to conserve water.
If
the climate here becomes drier the forest turns into dessert
